Pre-Jambo Campout

Staff Arrives!
From Geoff Miller, 7/21: I'm here! It's HOT! This gallery has a couple photos from the way into AP Hill. We had our first major heat related afternoon thunderstrom... it was a GOOD one. High wind, knocked down staff tents, etc. The photo of the empty field is the site of your camp site. There was no standing water after the rain. Note the backwards slope of the ground. More later!

Final Touches
From Geoff Miller, 7/23: Staff has been busy over the last couple of days getting everything ready for the Scouts. The weather is realitively nice... High 80's and moderate humidity. Here's a collection of photos from Subcamp 11 and from a bike ride that I took about the 12,000 acre Jambo Site.

This is the "calm before the storm". It's going to start raining Boy Scouts on Sunday with 7,000 early arrives hit "The Hill" and turn into a downpour on Monday when the other 28,000 descend.

1122 Hits The Jambo
From Geoff Miller, 7/25: The Jambo finally kicked off today. I greeted the guys at the entrance around 10:30 and guided them into Subcamp 11. The weather is some of the hotest Jambo weather in memory. But everyone is doing OK. Lots of water is being drunk to help ward off dehydration. Today was the "hardest day", it's supposed to be hot again tomorrow, but there there's no set up work to do!

Touring
The troop gave me a CD of photos taken by several troop members during their time on the road to the jambo. Here's a "best of" collection.

Jambo Full Swing
From Geoff Miller, 7/27: Here's a collection of images I've taken over the past two days. Some were from walking around the site and some are from our guy's troop site... including their first "laundry" experience.

Jambo Half Over!
From Geoff Miller, 7/30: It's hard to believe that the 2005 Jamboree is over 1/2 finished. Tomorrow night is the "closing" arena show! Here are some more Jambo photos I took on my day off today. Seen are: The Order of The Arrow's "12 Cubed" show, The National Exhibits Area, Merit Badge Midway, The Army Action Area, and Brownsea Island.

Eagle Court of Honor and a Celebrity Guest!
From Geoff Miller, 7/30: This evening, T1122 honored five of its Scouts that earned Eagle during the preparation for the 2005 Jamboree: Ryan Orwig, Jake Downey, Josh Demaree, Griffin Williams, and Andy Dillenbeck. All five Scouts had previously received their Eagle medals back home, but here they were given a special covetted "Yoda" Jamboree patch made by the Marin Council (home of George Lucas) for Scouts who earned their Eagles leading up to the Jambo. Afterwards a special guest showed up. She is Lill Morris, who was a major player in one of the Survivor TV series seasons. Lill is a Scoutmaster of one of the Cincinnati troops in our subcamp. Lill spent a lot of time chatting with the Scouts and answering questions about what it was like being on the show.

Winding Down
From Geoff Miller, 8/02: The 2005 National Scout Jamboree is almost history. This last gallery is from the "closing" arena show on Sunday. We were the last subcamp to make it into the arena and entered just before the Secret Service closed the arena during President Bush's speech. It took us about 5 minutes of Bush's speech to find and area to sit as the arena show set a new attendace record. When the dust settled we found ourselves "cozy" with the Southern region scouts not too far from the stage. The fireworks were incredible, as usual. Tomorrow we pack up and head home! I hope you enjoyed the galleries!
